Michael Manring - Bassisten over alle bassister?

MICHAEL'S NOTES

“Music for Armchair Funambulists” is the piece that necessitated the creation of the Hyperbass. I originally wrote it on my Musicman Stingray fretless

, performing all the tuning changes by turning the tuning keys while playing. I got pretty good at this and performed the piece live a few times, but realized that the monitoring situation is often so poor in a live concert situation that it’s very difficult to hear if you’ve gotten a string quite in tune or not. I wanted a faster, more reliable and more flexible system for changing tunings while playing, so I spoke to Joe Zon about it and we came up with the Hyperbass. Having the Hyperbass made playing “Music for Armchair Funambulists” a real joy and inspired me to write other pieces using re-tunings.
